REGION ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEES

ABOUT ABOUT

CQUniversity plays an active role in supporting the development of economic, social and cultural sustainability within its many communities.  CQUniversity partners with thousands of individuals, organisations and businesses nationally and internationally to create and exchange knowledge, deliver services and find solutions.

The University actively supports the development of sustainable communities and, as a result of the inaugural 2010 CQUniversity Connection Forums, Regional Engagement Committees were formed in various campus locations.

Throughout 2014, CQUniversity's Regional Engagement Committees underwent change following the University’s landmark merger with CQ TAFE to become Queensland’s first comprehensive university.

Coinciding with the merger was the launch and implementation of the CQUniversity Regional Leadership and Campus Integration Model. Developed primarily as a framework for managing and effectively integrating the University’s complex and diverse operations, the Model included recommendations which would further shape and enhance engagement strategy into the future.  In particular, the Model recommended the establishment of Associate Vice-Chancellors, each within a demarcated Region across the University’s footprint, to oversee localised functions, including that of internal and external engagement.

The Model also facilitated growth within the university/community Region Engagement Committee (REC) network. In 2015, broader community based engagement will be achieved through newly established Committees in the Victoria, New South Wales, South East Queensland, Townsville and North West Queensland, and Cairns and Far North Queensland regions. Existing Committees in Wide Bay Burnett, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Central Highlands and Mackay-Whitsunday embraced the University’s new comprehensive structure by extending their membership and focus to incorporate VET operations.

Region Engagement Committees, comprising of industry, business, government, community and university members take community-identified opportunities forward and work together to deliver more sustainable regions. The Committees report back to the community on their progress at an annual Forum.

Region Engagement Committees are formed via 'expressions-of-interest'. Please see the Region Engagement Committee Terms of Reference for more information.

We value the thoughts, opinions and suggestions of members of our community. Feel free to contact us to discuss how CQUniversity can contribute to community development in your Region.

School of Business & Law Bundaberg Campus School of Business & Law Bundaberg Campus

It was a very successful evening when the School of Business and Law, CQUniversity hosted VIPs and members of the Bundaberg and District Chamber of Commerce.

Professor Lee Di Milia, Dean of the School of Business and Law was Master of Ceremonies for the function and coordinated a very lively Q&A session with Bundaberg business leaders, where the School of Business and Law were congratulated for their recent engagement activities with the Bundaberg business community.  It was also a great opportunity to thank the strategic partners of the School of Business and Law, BDC Bondstore Bundaberg Rum (Diageo), Wide Bay Australia, 'The Waves' Sports Club, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks and Hinkler Central Shopping Centre.

Guests were welcomed to the campus by Professor Andrew Bridges, Associate Vice Chancellor (Wide Bay & Burnett) and Dean of Human, Health & Social Sciences.

Mr Yale Morgan, President of the Bundaberg and District Chamber of Commerce closed the presentation and encouraged Chamber members to become involved as mentors to students in the CQUniversity School of Business and Law and students will volunteer 10 hours of their time to work on a Chamber members' individual business project.  More details about the Mentor Program will be released in future weeks.

If you had any questions from the evening or wished to link with a student to work within your business as part of the Bundaberg and District Chamber of Commerce then please email Tim Whan, Associate Lecturer at the CQUniversity School of Business and Law - t.whan@cqu.edu.au
